Bertram Conference Center
Bertram Conference Center is located on Harden Hill Road in South Duxbury. From Bertram, it is a short walk down Harden Hill Road to Duxbury Bay and a small beach.

Behind Bertram, the ground slopes down to a marsh where there are many birds and wild flowers. The Center seems remote from civilization, but it is also a short walk to Hall's Corners in S. Duxbury, which has some small shops, a gas station and a caterer.

Twenty persons can be accommodated overnight in ten rooms with bunk beds. Linens and bedding are provided.

Meals
Groups are responsible for their own meals. Catering is available by Duxbury Deli but must be arranged in advance. There is a Pizza Parlor and Chinese Food take out. Groups also may bring prepared meals to serve from the efficiency kitchen.

Daytime Use
Bertram Center may also be reserved for use during the day only.

Clientele
Bertram is an ideal meeting space for vestry and Christian Education committees. The large meeting room is comfortable for 70 or more persons, and there are three other indoor spaces available for small groups. In warm weather, there are two porches which are fine places to meet or sit out. College Chaplains have enjoyed bringing students to Bertram for a getaway weekend of planning, discussion and relaxation. Music and dance programs have found the acoustics and flooring to their liking. Groups of young people have made Bertram their headquarters while helping in a local program and/or sightseeing.

Surrounding Area
The surrounding countryside is of great historical and scenic interest. Those who can take time out to stay and explore will not be disappointed. Some sites are within walking distance, while others require the use of a bike or car. Cape Cod is a delightful place to explore, and nearby Plymouth is of historical interest as well as a typical upper Cape town. Boat rides in Plymouth Harbor as well as whale watching are available during the season. The well-known Plymouth Plantation reproduces a remarkable picture of life in the settlement in 1630; new features are constantly being introduced. There are hiking trails available, and the ferry to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard is only 45 minutes by car.

The Boat House
The Boat House at St. Margaret's Convent in South Duxbury is a unique place for holiday, retreat or rest time. The building is set in a grove of smalloak trees and is probably the oldest building on the convent grounds. It was originally constructed as a place to manufacture and launch small boats. Hence its proximity to the bay. In the 1930's it was done over as a place for an overnight camp for children. More recently it has been used by the Novices of the Society of St. Margaret as a place to get away and for quiet times. Now the building has been renovated once again.

Front View.

There are three small individual bedrooms and two complete bathrooms. The
rooms are simple but comfortable. If there is need for more beds there isspace in the large front room for sleeping bags or cots. This building canbe used by groups of young people as well as adults. The living room has a large fireplace that is a pleasure on cool evenings and rainy days. The other rooms have some heat so that the building is comfortable from April through October. The Boathouse is closed throughout the winter months.

On warm days the double front doors may be opened so that there is a fine view of the shore and Duxbury Bay. There is a small efficiency kitchen which has everything needed to make the Boathouse entirely self-sufficient. Guests have everything they need for independent life away from the city.

While the place seems remote and far off by the seashore, it is actually very close to South Duxbury and to supplies of all sorts. There are also innumerable places of interest to visit on Cape Cod if one so desires.

Please call or write the Boston Convent for reservations and rate
information.
