What We Do

Read email from Sister Grace in NYC, September 2001 to April 2002.
The View from Ground Zero.

Strength from Contemplative Prayer
There is order in daily life. It is order that does not restrict, but rather results in a special quality of freedom and spiritual strength. It is a life that combines the best of the tradition, while at the same time keeps the Society in close touch with the active world.

In addition to Divine Office, each sister also devotes at least one and a half hours to meditation, intercessory prayer and spiritual reading. Silence provides breathing room within the intensity of community life, and is important for listening to God. The Great Silence lasts from Compline through breakfast and many meals are taken in silence. Each day begins at 6 a.m. with Morning Prayer prior to a daily celebration of the Eucharist at 7:30 am. At noon there is an Order of Service for Noonday. Evening Prayer is at 5:30 pm. Compline closes the day at 8:30 pm.

Ministries and Missions
The Society maintains retreat and conference centers in Boston and Duxbury, MA. Guests are welcomed for times of renewal, spiritual growth, and quiet at all convents. A home for elderly women is maintained in Haiti. Housing is provided for relatives of hospital patients in communities where mission houses and convents are located. Each Mission House develops and nurtures works and ministries according to the strengths of the sisters living there and the needs of the community in which they live.
